Since one month Onion are hunting Indians like anything. Due to the sudden price raise on Onions public are not able to sustain a day atleast without onions. As Onion is the main item in any food available, the cost rise made the middle class think about buying onions. This is the first time ever the price tag crossed Rs. 70/kg in India.
Last week Govt. Of India took some serious actions to come out of this damage but it couldn’t able to take a final decision as recently Pakistan decided to ban its exports through its Wagah – Attari border. If this continuous for next couple of days, the price tag of onions will cross 100 Rupees per kg. Congress government already took some breaking decision yesterday by having a bilateral talk with Pakistani counterparts on the issue. SM. Krishna on Friday that Pakistan will send more quantity of onion which is going to be delivered by ships and rail routes to India in coming days.
Onion prices have risen by Rs 5-10 per kg on Thursday after Pakistan banned exports of the commodity via Wagah border. At the Wagah-Attari border near Amritsar 300 India-bound trucks carrying 3,000 tonnes of onion are stranded resulting in prices shooting up said ibnlive
Onion prices have increased to Rs 60-65 a kg in major metros such as Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. Home Minister P Chidambaram expressed doubt on whether the government had all instruments to check price rise. The new rabi crop onion will come in the market in February. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India and NCCS are trying to bring atleast 10 trucks of onion from Gujarat and Rajasthan to Delhi. STC is trying to bring the onion by sea route.
Knowing all the above one has to wait until the price of onions come down atleast in the next two months.
